About Rise of the Lycans
WARNING! The text contains spoilers!
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a prequel to the 2003 movie Underworld, which is followed by Underworld: Evolution (2006). The series is complete right now, however, we cannot be sure if there won't be another movie.
Since it's a prequel, the story reveals a lot information that lacked the first part - the reason of war between the Vampires and the Lycans (werewolves). The main character is Lucian, the leader of Lycans and the first one of their kind, who appears in all the Underworld movies. He and Victor's (the Elder of the Vampire) daughter - Sonja are in love against all the differences.
Raise of the Lycans is a beautiful yet morbid love story. When Victor learns his daughter has a romance with Lucian, even that she is pregnant with him, the Lycan, he condemns her to death and Lucian is the one watching is when Sonja (a vampire) is killed by the sunlight.
The plot however not only concerns on the love. Lycans are Vampires' slaves. After getting punished for disobedience, Lucian decided they don't deserve being threated like animals (Vampires call them dogs, despite their human form). With help of Sonja he escapes and takes other Lycans with him. Eventually, the war between Lycans and Vampires begins. Lycans win, but Victor is not dead.
After many centuries the war still last. And it's a plot of Underworld and Underworld: Evolution (where Victor is finally killed and war stops)
Underworld: Evolution is a beautiful story of love and sacrifice. Amazing scenes of fights and the unique atmosphere. Never before had I seen another movie with such a dark, morbid atmosphere which in the same time is strangely... warm. The series shows how human can be both Vampires and Lycans but the circumstances make them turn into monsters. The scenography and costumes are absolutely breathtaking There's not a single movie like Underwodl series, at least that I know about. Since the first movie I become a huge fan. Then decided the sequel is better and now, completely honestly, I can tell that Rise of the Lycans if the best of all. Despite all my love to previous movie I pref ere when the fights are mode traditional, swords, cross-bods, not that super advanced technology and 20 kinds of guns...
